A pitch is a one-paragraph summation of what you want to write about, including the format and word count needed to execute your idea. While a pitch summarizes your story idea in a clear and concise manner, it is not your entire story.

The goal of a pitch is to present an idea in an informative, helpful, and intriguing manner in order to make it as easy as humanly possible for an editor to say yes to your idea! Your job is to take all the guesswork out of your concept by presenting it in such a clear way that makes it almost impossible to get a rejection.

A lot of writers I work with get really frustrated in the pitching process. They want the shiny assignment in a top publication, but they don’t want to feel like they have to sell their souls to get it. I mean, I get it, if you’re a writer you probably don’t want to be a salesperson.

But to be a successful freelance writer

Do they have some hidden talent that you don’t possess that allows them to get assignments time and time again?
No, no they do not.

Do they have consistently amazing ideas?
Also, likely.

Are they a really good writer?
Yes, probably.

you not only need to be a creative ideas wizz, but you also need to know how to sell that idea.

While the writers we read in magazines are undoubtedly great, they aren’t necessarily the best writers in the world. But if you pick up a year’s worth of magazines from the same title, you’ll often notice that certain writers keep showing up again and again.

But these writers do have one very important thing figured out…

they know how to pitch!

If you know how to write a damn good pitch, you will be a successful freelance writer.

I can almost guarantee it.

  • Your idea feels pretty solid, but you’re unsure how to package it into the perfect pitch

  • You sent your pitch out to a few magazines and didn’t hear anything back

  • You are ready to take your idea to the next level and need help doing so

Pitch Makeover
is for you if…

How it works?

After your purchase, I’ll send you a form to complete.

STEP 1

After I receive your form, I’ll review your information and edit your idea into a concise pitch. If there are gaps where I believe you need to do either more research or add more information, I will show you where to do so. I’ll also send you a voice note between two and five minutes long that helps break down my suggestions.

STEP 2

You complete the form and send it back to me. The goal of the form is to help you get clear on your idea—and to also help me help you to the fullest.

STEP 3

*The turnaround time to receive your final pitch is two weeks from the day your TypeForm is received. If you purchase a three-pack, your package is valid for 90 days.
